Sourcing Local Produce and Herbs with Brigade Boys & Girls Club for #NCFarmtoSummer

Brigade Boys and Girls Club - image

Our second success story highlights the Brigade Boys & Girls Club. The Brigade Boy & Girls Club sourced farm to summer produce (local peaches and watermelon) from Feast Down East to serve as part of summer meals.

Peaches were served during N.C. Farm to Summer Week, July 18-22. Watermelon was served during the following week. The fresh, local fruit was a hit with students! They also kicked up the flavor by using local spicy peppers (jalapeno, shishito) and herbs as ingredients in dishes. For a #NCFarmtoSummer activity, staff planted blueberry bushes with students to help educate the children about growing and harvesting blueberries.
