Serving Up Local Beef in Buncombe County for #NCFarmtoSummer

Buncombe Farm to Summer 2022 - image

Our third success story highlights Buncombe County Schools. The Buncombe County School Nutrition Programs participated in the #NCFarmtoSummer Challenge by sharing nutrition education posts on social media and serving locally raised beef, from Brasstown Beef located in Franklin, each week during their Summer Feeding Program. This was not at a single school but countywide for all the schools that were doing summer meals. Did you know that BCS Nutrition Department Director Lisa Payne received the Services (NCDA&CS) Best Practice Award for bringing “farm to school” practices to BCS students and staff? The award recognized Ms. Payne’s successful efforts to partner with Franklin-based Brasstown Beef as a fresh, local meat supplier for Buncombe County Schools. Buncombe County Schools participated in the #NCCrunch in October. Buncombe County Schools support #NCFarmtoSummer and #NCFarmtoSchool! Be on the lookout for more success stories on our newsfeed and social media. Thanks to all who participated in the #NCFarmtoSummer Challenge!
